What to Expect

how i work

I use a highly collaborative, client-centered approach, engaging with each individual from a place of grounded curiosity. I take great joy in the process of learning together and invite your full participation in our work together.

We will begin each session with a short conversation about what you are noticing in your body, co-creating a plan for the session. I work slowly and methodically, centering each session around the areas of your body that we have chosen together.

My work focuses primarily on giving your body sensory input that allows you to begin to unwind the fascial layers that wrap every structure of the body. I generally work dry, meaning I use little to no lotion, allowing me to connect into your tissue and support each layer to unravel more effectively. My attention is generally with fascia and nerves, using an inviting touch to listen and respond as they shift. I integrate neuromuscular tools, gentle stretching, breathing and alignment exercises, and movement prompts into my primarily myofascial and neurofascial approach, and will use hydrotherapy (generally moist heat packs) and lymphatic facilitation as needed and desired.

We will conclude every session with another brief check in about what we each noticed. I will offer some ideas for supporting your body’s continued unwinding after you leave the treatment room through home-care exercises and places to put your attention before your next session, and we will come up with a plan for how you can continue to engage with the work we have done once you leave.

to help you prepare

  • After our initial conversation, I will leave the room and you will be invited to undress to the level of your comfort and move onto the table. For some people, that means being all or partly naked underneath the sheet and blanket – some people choose to leave underwear on, and some choose to take it off. For others, that means remaining fully or partially clothed. You will be covered by a sheet – and a blanket if you wish – the entire time you are on the table, and I will undrape only the part of your body where we are working. Sometimes I will work directly on your skin, and sometimes I will work through the sheets. I will keep your genitals, gluteal cleft, and chest (for all genders) draped at all times without exception.

  • My treatment room is located inside of Seattle Movement Project (SMP). The entrance to the space is fully wheelchair accessible, as are all doors, including my treatment room and the bathroom. Please note that there are no grab bars in the bathroom.

My electric massage table has a weight capacity of 650 pounds, is wider than the average table, and lowers to 17” from the floor. The back tilts up to allow for a reclining position, and I have a variety of bolsters, pillows, and props to comfortably support a range of positions on the table.

  • Some people find that they are very tired for up to several days after receiving myofascial work. I find this is particularly true if we work with a part of your body that has not received work for a while. If you find that you are more tired than you’d like, or that you feel sore after a session, please let me know, as that could be giving us a clue that your body wants slower, gentler work.

about the space

  • My treatment room is located inside Seattle Movement Project (SMP) in the Madrona neighborhood of Seattle. Enter through the front door of SMP into the waiting room when you arrive for your appointment. Help yourself to tea!

  • We use scent-free products in the space and have air purifiers always running. My treatment room is as low-scent as possible – I don’t do aromatherapy, I use scent-free lotion, linens are washed with scent-free detergent, I use scent-free personal care products – and I ask that my clients come without strong, synthetic fragrances. I cannot guarantee, however, that SMP is fully scent-free, as there may be scents brought in from clients of other practitioners who share the space.

I use organic massage cream that is free of most allergens – please ask if you’d like to see the ingredient list. I can also work entirely dry if you’d prefer.

  • Free street parking is generally available on 33rd Avenue and on Spring Street, and the #2 and #3 bus lines stop a block away. Feel free to bring your bicycle into the space if you ride to your appointment.

“Mollie's massages are truly therapeutic: she focuses on no-pain sessions that help the muscles and nerves re-learn how to work together without pain in daily life. She's very responsive to needs as they arise in the session, is a good listener in the pre-session consultation and during the massage, and then checks in after to make sure everything still feels good. The only reason I'd stop seeing her is that she is actually helping resolve various aches and pains in a lasting way, but as I age and work a desk job I'm keeping Third Point bookmarked!”
